Went to watch Badger game and get dinner at a 'bar'. We were told we couldnt eat dinner at the bar, only apps. There were about 6-7 apps options, that's it. Bartender told us there was a separate viewing area for the game if we wanted dinner. We were paying customers and should have been able to eat dinner where we wanted to eat. I could understand this'policy' if the bar or restaurant were full, but there were only a few others. We liked our good seats at the bar. Great bloodie, but the food? Wouldnt know, we left to eat where we could watch game and enjoy our meals. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL building, probably wouldn't go for a meal but maybe a drink. We were turned off by the 'rules'... they seemed desperste for customes as parking lot was empty all day.... on a holiday weekend. Assuming others had similar experience. They need to cater more to payimg customers, we would have spent a decent amount there, but they wouldn't allow us to.

Wow! What a difference a couple years make. My wife and I couldn't wait to try this place again, but were underwhelmed during our visit this last weekend. This time, we stopped for lunch, instead of dinner like last year. Like several of the other reviews, service was really slow. Our eventual waiter took care of the table next to us at least 4 times before finally acknowledging our existence. I ordered the Sliced Prime Rib sandwich. The waiter said: "Sorry, we're all out of that because the meat spoiled". Seriously?!? He's telling a customer the meat spoiled? Had he simply told me they were just out, my conclusion would have been that the sandwich was so awesome they couldn't maintain enough inventory. He suggested the next closest item, which was the Philly Steak Sandwich, which I decided to go with. The description sounded good. When it came out, I literally had to lift the top of the hoagie-style bun to see if there was anything inside. I expect all the stuff to be falling out of a Philly sandwich, so this was disappointing. The flavor was fine, but was mainly cheese and peppers with very light on the steak. The homemade potato chips were really great, but shouldn't have been the star of the show. My wife ordered the Bandito Burger, which sounded awesome. It may have been the power of suggestion coming from the "spoiled meat" comment earlier, but 1 bite into her burger, my wife asked me "does this smell right to you?". There was definitely something different about the aroma, but I concluded it was the unique seasoning. She ate it all and didn't get sick later, so I think her senses were tainted by the waiter's earlier comment. Needless to say, it's probably going to take a lot of 4 and 5-star reviews to bring us back for another try. I hope this was an isolated case of "meh", because we both just love the atmosphere of the place. Note to Management... you need to step up the wait staff training!

I was wondering about all the mixed reviews. We were invited to join another couple for brunch buffet Sundy. Keeping in mind the other reviews here is my experience. We were greeted at the door and asked to wait as the hostess was dealing other customers. The decor was that of a north woods log cabin, hence the name. We were seated 5 minutes before seeing our waitress. The place was about 25% full. While waiting I observed the place for cleanliness. Very clean as well as the glasses and plates. We ordered beverages and the buffet. We went up to the buffet table. The salad was nearly empty but had a good selectipnd of add ins. The bacon and sausage were cold the eggs hard and rubbery. The pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy were hot, but a little on the salty side. The steamed vegetables were over steamed and limp. The deep fried shrimp was good but barely warm. They had a smoked salmon which was really good, but I wish they would have had it on ice to keep it from going bad. We were half way through out first plate before our drinks arrived. The desert bar was really lame. Only chocolate cake and cherry crisp. I understand now the mixed reviews as there are good and bad qualities to this place. I rate it ok, but much room for improvement.

Slow service but worth the wait.....I had the prime rib sandwich and husband had grilled chicken...best food we have had since we have been in door county

First off let me say it was New Yesrs Eve and they were very packed.... but the service was terrible no bread refill no drink refill and keep in mind my husband and I waited and hour and 45 mins for our food. When we finally got our food our crab legs were cold as if they just pulled them out of the fridge. We left right after we finished our food. On the way home I got sick. I will never ever be eating at this restaurant ever again worst part about it was it was so over priced we spent damn near 100 dollars for low quality food.

We enjoyed lunch here while driving around Door county. Stopped around 3 PM and it was quiet. Quickly seated and order taken. Hubby enjoyed a cup of seafood chowder with his perch sandwich platter and my turkey club platter was tasty as well. Beautiful building and friendly server made this a nice late lunch. Just over $20 was a deal....stop by and give them a try.

Interesting place. Really over the top woodsy decor, which is cool for the area it is in, certainly better than a lot of local places that don't make an effort. And it's huge, we were there on a weeknight during "season" and I would have expected more people, but there were quite a few but they just sort of disappeared into the vastness of it all. Food was very good and reasonably priced and good portions. Spinach dip appetizer is a must. Even the house salad was nice. Wait staff was very professional. You should give it a try.

Well, I've tried this restaurant several times and I've finally reached my limit. I went there with two of my girlfriends and each of us ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich and it was served on a huge bun with little meat or cheese. The flavor was so bland that we asked for some horseradish sauce to zip it up a bit. When the server arrived with our little cup of sauce we plopped it on our sandwich hoping it would help....but....the contents of the "little cup" was actually PANCAKE BATTER!! Keep in mind that we had already doused out sandwich so when we got the servers attention we told her that the sauce tasted like cake batter to which she insisted..."no, it's horseradish sauce!" She insisted more than once that we were wrong. We took yet another bite and got her attention a second time....to which she finally went back to the kitchen to find out what she had served us. She came back and told us that she had grabbed the pancake batter instead. Now here's where it got really good.... Although she did say she was sorry, she didn't offer to bring us a new sandwich and she didn't adjust our bill one penny! Seriously? btw....the service has ALWAYS been very, very slow. I've tried this restaurant off and on over the years thinking it would somehow improve but sadly it has not. The log building itself is beautiful and unique, but the food and service are a big disappointment. My suggestion....drive by!

We had a wonderful dinner - great service and friendly staff. The one down side was the garlic mashed potatoes - not hot, lumpy and hard. Perhaps made yesterday? Too bad. We will go back and order a different side dish next time!

My wife and I were there last fall and we LOVED it! I had the walleye and it was perfect. Great atmosphere. The building and location were beautiful. It was a pleasant surprise to find in door county. Honestly, I am surprised at the poor reviews on yelp. Perhaps they have improved service and food. I will say it was not busy when we were there so perhaps we got lucky. Bottom line is we really enjoyed the log den, despite its cheesy name, and are looking forward to going again. If it sucks next time I will update this review and let future readers know!

Stopped in wanting some good bar food/appetizers and a glass of wine. Have been here for dinner before (so so) and loved the decor and layout of the bar area. Although the bartender was good, the food and wine were not. Asked for Chardonnay -- just two offerings by the glass, one was too sweet and one was musty, almost tasting corked. My friend got a Guinness instead... We had cheese curds -- that ole Wisconsin staple -- these were heavily breaded and overcooked. Have had much better at other places in Door County. Also had a chicken quesadilla which despite the mushroom/vegetable mix, was just ok... not much flavor. Broadening the wine menu and finessing the appetizers would make this a go to place to hang out, especially as the decor is fun....but for now it will be a place we pass by...

What an absolute MESS! Had server Sarah tonight, said they ran out of lemons, said we didn't get bread because the "kitchen burnt it," never brought our cheese curds, didn't bring extra sauce or a takeout box after asking twice. All of this and waiting over an hour! We were regulars - this is the absolute last time we subject ourselves to the foolishness and complete lack of management at this place!

I was very disappointed. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. It was supposed to be topped with lobster, shrimp, and crab. I saw none of that. And there was a black hair on top of the fish, under the sauce. When I mentioned the lack of seafood on top of my fish to the waiter he said it was in the sauce. That's not how it's described on the menu. All I saw in the sauce was finely diced celery. I showed him the hair and he plucked it out of my hand and wiped it on his apron. He said he would remove my entree from the bill and took my entree off the table. I told him that wasn't necessary, I wasn't squeamish he could wrap it up. For 30 dollars very disappointing.

You could get better food at a hole-in-the wall bar. This place was terrible...the food, service, everything. The only positive was that the restaurant itself was clean and neat.

Sunday buffet brunch is absolutely great. Wide variety of very good food. Surprised to find smoked salmon, perch, & shrimp on such a reasonably priced brunch menu. Highly recommended!

The Log Den is mediocre at best. I ordered a NY strip steak, medium-rare, and it was beyond well done. Dry and tough. There's nothing about the food here that sets it apart from any other restaurant and you can definitely find a better meal elsewhere. However the service is fantastic! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The building is also very beautiful and the decor inside is really rustic and cool.

My food was lukewarm, and that's what I found this dining experience to be. We were seated right away. We had intended to go to the fish boil, but it was canceled and required reservations. Well, the message on the answering machine let us know neither of those things... We looked a menu and decided to stay. The decor was a little over the top. The woodsy theme is very apparent. I think we'd get the message with a few less critters around. There's an eagle perched looking over the dining room. There's a santa's sleigh uptop a big triangular fireplace... wtf?! The country music bordered on annoying, I couldn't decide if I wanted to go to sleep or just leave because of it. Our waiter was over the top as well. He was I think trying to be funny, but just came across as overdramatic and slow. He set down everybody's food and did something else before serving it to a table. Maybe that's whats responsible for the lukewarm food? The food... I ordered shrimp and scallops with a side of rice and veggies. The shrimp was hard to get off the skewers and the scallops were a little tough. The salad bar, well, Pick'n'Save has a better one. The soup, Chicken Vegetable, was top notch. If I could have just gotten the soup I think I would have been happier. This place is confused I think. The prices were in line with a fancier restaurant, but the vibe they were going for is not.

Cold buffet brunch! $40 for two people! They were out of eggs right away. we had to wait... but at least that was the one thing that was warm. We were among the first to arrive for Sunday brunch. We were greeted slowly... We were sort of meandering around trying to figure out where to go as we were not greeted. When the hostess seated us she said a waiter would be with us shortly, get us drinks, and direct us to the buffet. He was slow in coming and never mentioned the price of the buffet. Many others were directed to the buffet before our waiter even showed up at our table. There was only about 4 people that arrived before us and while we sat waiting for the waiter many others came in and the buffet line got long before we were served drinks and directed to the buffet. When we got to the buffet line they were already out of scrambled eggs and American fried potatoes. I went through the rest of the line and came back and still had to wait for eggs. After we finished eating I mentioned the cold food. He asked about what was cold and seemed concerned. He went and talked to the hostess about it but came back with the bill, asked us where we were from (for the second time) and said he was sorry for the cold food. I hope their dinner entrees are good because this buffet was lousy and expensive. Very nice log building but that is all I can say good about it.

This is the second time we were here. First time was 5 years ago when they first opened. Thought we would give them a second chance. Not a good idea. Where do I start. First noticed the water glasses were filthy. Handed them to the bus boy but alas he was our 12 year old waiter. I ordered the Friday fish fry only to receive a baked piece of fish with cream sauce on it. Huh actually it was ok however not fried. Hmm not sure what I missed. The wife ordered chicken Parmesan chicken was burnt on the edge and soggy in the middle on a bed of linguini in a pool of water. Come on really. !!!! Requested extra bread which the waiter threw on the table with no additional butter. Which also left me with a very dry baked potato. Will not give them a third chance.

Although the establishment is beautiful, the likeliness of returning is very slim. We stopped in for lunch, and although the staff was friendly enough, the service was very slow. We ordered 2 basic sandwiches- BLT and turkey melt which took close to 30 minutes to receive. If it had been busy I would have totally understood, however there were about 4 other tables being served at the time. Both sandwiches were also very greasy, the BLT notes that it is toasted however it was grilled and smothered in butter. Most likely won't go back

I was disappointed. Mid-Day, mid-week meal. This could have been so much better. Such a fabulous facility and even though it was near-empty, the service was really poor. Seems to be slipping. Horrible. It's actually hard to think of ways my family dining experience here could have been much worse. Here are some highlights: - Inept service staff - Dirty interior - Poorly executed cuisine - Terrible wine list - Lousy Salad bar AND it is overpriced too! The lack of professionalism at all levels was truly astonishing. The location and building are fine, but everything else is exceedingly poor. Do yourself a favor and avoid this joke of a restaurant.
